A community church in North Andover, Massachusetts

Christmas 2020

A year ago, who would have thought we would be where we are today? There is no question that the Covid 19 pandemic and subsequent lock-downs have changed our lives dramatically and not always for the better. I suppose we must obey the “powers that be” in these matters, but I have to admit, Advent services without singing is hard. And I am sure that everyone will have at least one uncomfortable memory of these days.

That’s the bad news, and enough of it, because Christmas is about good news.

C.S. Lewis once observed, “The astonishing thing about Christianity is its assertion that the God who created the universe really and truly loves, and even enjoys, these ridiculous little bipeds that live on this planet.”

Yes, astonishing! Yes, amazing! Yes, the ultimate good news! No matter where the human race was before Christ was born, no matter where we were in our own journeys before Christ came into our lives, no matter where we find ourselves in December, 2020, the God of all creation loves you so much he wants to spend eternity with you. The simple fact is, God is crazy about you.

And that’s why, even with all the ups and downs of life, we celebrate Christ’s birth. That was the event and moment when everything changed. A broken world was being reconciled to its Creator. And so were the broken people in it. You and me.

Please join us in the sanctuary for a Christmas Eve service of readings and candles Thursday, the 24th, at 5:00 p.m.

Merry Christmas from the entire First-Calvary Baptist Church staff.

Peace
Pastor Rob Branch, interim
